Auction History
Over its 16 years, The Auction has raised over $4 million for our School’s students and Alumni Association. This is the main fundraising event to benefit students and alumni of The School. An executive board of students work to solicit donations from alumni, friends, and the local community.
Auction Goals
To raise $220,000 in retail value of donations, including $20,000 in cash. We expect to receive approximately $110,000 in revenue after the Auction from which we must deduct our expenses.
Who Benefits from Auction
Our School’s Student Hospitality Association and Alumni Association split the net income of Auction. The Auction assists student clubs and student trips to places such as The National Restaurant Show in Chicago and The International Hotel/Motel Show in New York City. This year we are also donating to two local charities: the Junior League of Lansing and the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities at MSU.
Where and When Does the Auction Take Place
This annual event is held on the MSU Campus at the Kellogg Center’s Big Ten Rooms. This year, it is February 9, 2008 starting at 5:00 pm.
How Does the Auction Work
A live auction and a silent auction are held simultaneously in the Big Ten Rooms. The Auction executive board combines many high value packages to be bid on during the live auction, while unique single hotel nights, restaurant gift certificates, and other merchandise draw many bidders to the silent auction. If unable to send an item or gift certificate, please send a check payable to The Auction. This cash helps by directly off-setting our expenses.
We Need Your HELP
The School’s students and alumni need your support and donations to make The Auction a success. We are asking you to donate as little as one item to The School. Equally important as hotel stays, restaurant dining, and merchandise donations is cash donations. Everything you donate goes directly to support the future leaders in the hospitality industry, and helps The School stay strong as one of the leading hospitality schools in the world. We could not have this event without support from alumni and area businesses such as you!
